How will the P20 wage increase alleviate the financial situation of the workers in Central Visayas? (CDN FILE PHOTO/ TONEE DESPOJO)
WORKERS in Central Visayas will receive an additional P20 increase in their daily minimum wage by the end of this month.
The amount approved by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Central Visayas (RTWPB-7) in its closed door meeting early today increases the daily minimum wage to P305 for Region 7.
The approved increase was a lot lower than the P120 proposed by the Alliance of Progressive Labor (APL) group in the region. Labor representative Ernesto Carreon said the amount was too small.
He said even a P50 increase is insufficient for the workers to maintain their standard of living. Regional Director Asteria Caberte of the Department of Trade and Industry in Central Visayas (DTI-7) admitted that prices of basic commodities would rise in the long run
Management representative Charles Estreegan said the wage hike can impair their business and may even cause business closures and layoffs for some workers.

that´s a seven percent pay rise…congratulation! So don´t be surprised if inflations continues to climb…somehow the companies have to offset this burden…and how else but by increasing prices…duh!
