Prosecution lawyers in Ecleo case bare death threats

Private prosecutors in the parricide case of Rep. Ruben Ecleo said they received threatening text messages purportedly coming for the convicted lawmaker and cult leader.

Lawyers Fritz Quiñanola and Kit Enriquez who represented the Bacolod family in the celebrated case admitted receiving a text message last Saturday that parricide convict is planning a “first strike”.

Whatever that means, the prosecution team are taking it as a threat seriously

Quiñanola said the prosecution team are meeting today to discuss their plans.

In 2004, fellow prosecution lawyer Arbet Sta. Ana – Yongco was murdered in her home in Cebu City.

Quiñanola said they are not in favor of defense lawyer Orlando Salatandre’s decision to part ways with his decade-old client.

He said it is just a tactic of the defense to delay the court process.

The defense is making it appear that Ecleo does not have a lawyer thus they could not make an appeal within 15 days since the decision was made.

Salatandre and his co-defense lawyer Giovanni Mata informed the court yesterday that they have decided to withdraw their lawyer-client relationship with Ecleo.
