THE May 2 repairs for the Marcelo Fernan bridge will have to be postponed to a later date.
Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia voiced dissatisfaction over the explanation by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on their time frame and conduct of the repairs.
Garcia who heads the Mactan Cebu Bridge Management Board (MCBMB) said she was not informed of the repair schedule and only learned about it through the media.
She called for an emergency meeting with the board and learned that the materials for the repairs have not arrived yet.
A technical working group (TWG) will report to the governor to discuss palliative measures to ease the traffic congestion on May 16.
Two lanes of the bridge would be closed for traffic. The Marcelo Fernan Bridge is one of two bridges that connect mainland Cebu to Mactan island. It leads to the airport and Mactan Economic Zone 1 which houses several factories.
