The official image of Beato Pedro Calungsod that will be brought to the Rome canonization on October 21 has been chosen by retired Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal today. The wooden sculpture from Paete, Laguna has been donated by to the Cebu Archdiocese. Vidal however did not divulge the donor.
Vidal who made the specification of the image of Calungsod said, “First the face must be a Filipino face, especially the nose and the skin color. Then the Doctrina Cristiana, and the palm which is the symbol of martyrdom, and then the feet is on the move because he was a missionary. He was a catechist in a foreign land, in Guam. Those are the features of the image that I have communicated with the sculpture in Paete,” Vidal said. The images came in three sizes today, four, three and two feet. The two feet image of Calungsod will be brought to Rome for the canonization while the two others will remain here in Cebu and would take center stage in the November 30 thanksgiving mass here in Cebu City at the South Road Properties.
