Sonar, pilots flown in to help search for Robredo, pals

Sonar equipment was airlifted from Mactan, Benito Ebuen air base to assist in the search and rescue operation of the ill-fated aircraft carrying DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo and two others off Masbate coast.

Maj. Reynaldo Gabinete, public information officer of the Air Force Second Air Division said the sonar was borrowed from the Cebu Yacht Club and was brought to Masbate via a Huey helicopter at 8:08 a.m.

Four Air Force officers also went to the area on board two MG 520 helicopters to help operate the sonar to detect the lost aircraft.

Aside from Robredo, Cebuano pilot and aviation school owner Jessup Bahinting and Nepali student pilot Kshitiz Chan were also missing.

The double engine aircraft, Piper Aztec RPC4431 boarded by Robredo and his companions left the General Aviatours hangar, general aviation area at the Mactan Cebu International Airport  at 3:06 p.m. yesterday.

Robredo graced the ground breaking ceremony of the new PNP regional training center in Consolacion town and the national summit of the Community Investigative Support (CIS) at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) in Mandaue City.
