TWO Manila-based runners were hit by a vehicle driven by an election official during Sunday’s Timex Run in Cebu City.
The two victims identified as 32-year-old Sandra Raulo Gonzales and 42-year-old Peter Gonzales, both residents of Pasig in Metro Manila, were brought to Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City.
Election officer Ferdinand Gujilde, of Pakigne, Minglanilla town Cebu, drove his Kia Rio Sedan with plate number YKP 549 when he hit the two runners along N. Bacalso Avenue in Mambaling, Cebu City at 6:25 a.m.
Based on the incident report of the Cebu City Traffic Operation Management (CITOM), Gujilde headed south to his home in Minglanilla town, when he took a nap and accidentally hit the two runners who joined the 16K category of the Timex Run.
SPO1 Anthony Deligero said the the two sustained multiple injuries and were brought to the hospital. Gujilde underwent a liquor test at the Cebu City Medical Center and found to be positive of alcohol intake.
Citom telephone operator Jimelon Jimeno said they disseminated information to the media about the route of the Timex Run, which has three categories—the 5K, 10K and 16K runs.
All runners would start at the Cebu Normal University and end at the Cebu City Sports Complex. For 16 K category, the runners will run from the Cebu Normal University in Osmena Boulevard going to Fuente Osmeña.
They would continue towards Escario St, Don Gil Garcia, left turn to M Velez, V. Rama.
