PENSION houses and resorts were fully booked and streets were filled with revelers from all over the province for the annual Haladaya festival of Daanbantayan town in northern Cebu yesterday.

About 14 contingents from different barangays in Daanbantayan joined the festival which drew in the most number of visitors in recent years.

Local officials gave two reasons why the event was well-attended.

“The people may be curious on what Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and Mayor Ma. Luisa Loot fought about,” said Provincial Board Member Sun Shimura.

But his mother, Mayor Loot, said it was the bayanihan spirit that made it possible.

“A lot more people took pity and gave whatever they have even without the solicitation letters. Even the vendors in the market gave their share to make the festival a success,” she said.
