The Cebu city government honored  Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal and eight other individuals during a testimonial dinner on Thursday night, for their significant contribution to the city’s growth.

Mayor Michael Rama and city officials gave the Rajah Humabon Award to Vidal while plaques were handed out to  other awardees as one of the highlights in the city’s 74th Charter Day celebration.

Young athletes from  different barangays in the  Cebu City Sports Commission were showcased  in a dance presentation.

Slides of Cebu City’s skyline and moving images of devotion to the Sto. Niño showcased Cebu’s urban growth and identity as the cradle of Christianity in the Philippines.

Another  Powerpoint presentation showed Don Vicente Rama and his struggles for Cebu's cityhood.

A portrait of the Father of the City Charter, grandfather of Mayor Rama,  held a prominent place on stage.

Photos  and paintings of Don Vicente were also on display at the lobby of the Casino Español de Cebu.

Cebu South Distric Rep. Tomas Osmeña skipped the celebration but wife Margot, a city councilor, attended. Tomas earlier criticized the Rama administration’s “lavish” spending for the city's Charter Day celebration including the P1.4 million dinner, which had the  theme “Deeply Rooted, Standing Firm, Reaching High.” Vice Mayor Joy Young was out of town.

City administrator Jose Marie Poblete and city councilors welcomed guests, including barangay officials and members of the Rama clan, North District Rep. Rachel “Cutie” del Mar and her father  former representative Raul del Mar.
