PROPONENTS of the Road Revolution are pushing a dialogue with transport, local officials and other stakeholders prior to the implementation of the flyover projects in Cebu City.

Urban planner Joy Martinez-Onozawa said instead of a flyover, a bike lane and a widened pedestrian lane can help ease traffic congestion in the city.

She said only five percent of the Cebuanos own cars which necessitates the need for more bike lanes to encourage residents to use bicycles, skates and skateboards for transportation.

Tara Rama of the Law of Nature Foundation and Vince Cinches of 350.org said the flyover project of Rep. Rachel “Cutie” del Mar of Cebu City’s north district needs review and should not be hastily implemented.

“We (government officials) trust them to govern not to dictate. We just want proper studies to be made, we have to look at the bigger problem. This is a big opportunity to use the road system to make Cebuanos live better,” Onozawa said.
