A dance rehearsal of inmates of the Cebu provincial jail for their public show today was interrupted by a fight among inmates.

One inmate brandished an improvised ice pick.

Fellow inmates subdued Carillo Balueza but only after a commotion that sent Cebu City police rushing to the prison facility in Kalunasan, Cebu City, yesterday morning.

When the fight broke up, Balueza had bruises and minor head injuries.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia cancelled today’s inmates’ performance.

The CPDRC inmates who gained fame after their dance performances were uploaded on YouTube in 2007 perform for free every last Saturday of the month.

Policemen and the media were not allowed to immediately enter the facility yesterday.

Capitol consultant on jail matters Jose Mari Gastardo said this was a standard safety precaution.

Balueza, 26, of Carcar City, is facing an attempted murder case.

Gastardo said the Capitol will seek medical assistance to check Balueza’s psychological condition. /Correspondents Carmel Loise Matus and Chito Aragon
