Citing family solidarity, Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy announced his exit from the administration One Cebu party and his transfer to the Liberal Party-Cebu chapter.

He also decided to slide down and run for vice mayor under the slate of his granddaughter lawyer Leighna Katrina Sitoy-Abarquez of the Cebu-LP who’s eyeing the mayoralty post in Cordova town next year.

Sitoy will be sworn in with others this Saturday, Cebu-LP chairman Hilario Davide III said. Davide said it was Provincial Board (PB) Member Arleigh Sitoy who told him about his father’s plan.

PB member Thadeo Ouano, Rep. Luigi Quisumbing of Cebu’s 6th district and Sitoy’s granddaughter Leighna Abarquez already took oath under LP.

“The LP’s strength will already be consolidated. Adelino Sitoy’s entry is a big boost to us, especially in the sixth district,” Davide told CCTN news.

The elder Sitoy said he personally handed his resignation to Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia last Tuesday, telling the governor that his departure is aimed at ensuring his family’s solidarity.

“I told the governor that while I have managed to survive my political differences with son Arleigh, I find it extremely difficult at my age to be politically at odds with my grandchildren especially Katrina Abarquez,” Sitoy said.

Rep. Pablo John Garcia of Cebu’s 6th district, One Cebu’s standard bearer, said he expected the news already.

“I heard three weeks ago how he would slide down to vice mayor in favor of his  granddaughter. If he stayed with One Cebu it would be untenable,” the congressman said./Correspondent Fe Marie Dumaboc
