The road rehabilitation along UN Avenue has been causing heavy traffic in Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue City. (TONEE DESPOJO)

VEHICLES coming from Plaridel Street can now directly cross United Nations Avenue going to Cansaga Expressway instead of making a u-turn passing under the Marcelo Fernan bridge and through the Pajara Park.

Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) made the new traffic scheme to ease traffic on the Lapu-Lapu side of the Marcelo Fernan bridge caused by the UN Avenue rehabilitation work.

TEAM chief Edwin Ermac said they would allow vehicles from Plaridel Street to Cansaga to cross UN Avenue to ease the traffic in barangay Pusok near the new bridge.

The new traffic scheme started yesterday and would be implemented until the Department of Public Works and Highways would finish with their road repair work on February next year.

Ermac said in the usual traffic scheme, vehicles from Plaridel Street going to Cansaga, used to make a U turn going to Pajara and shared the the one-lane used by vehicles from Lapu-Lapu City.

He said that the Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System complained about the traffic on their side because vehicles from Lapu-Lapu City going to Mandaue City were only allowed to use one of the two lanes going to the bridge because of the road rehabilitation work about a kilometer away from the foot of the bridge.

The Pajara route vehicles only made the traffic worse.

Ermac, however, said that they would also allow vehicles who would want to use the Pajara Park route. /Correspondent Fe Marie Dumabocl
