AN 18-year-old laborer was shot by his neighbor after they figured in an argument that led to a fistfight in barangay Legaspi, Alegria town in southern Cebu.

Gilbert Besin is recuperating in the hospital while the 30-year-old suspect Emiliano Quintanes surrendered to the authorities.

Police investigation revealed that Besin and Quintanes were headed home to sitio Samoyao after watching a cockfight in a fiesta celebration in sitio Looc at 10 p.m. last Thursday.

While walking along the road, Besin and Quintanes argued and had a fistfight. It was unclear what the argument was all about. Quintanes was overpowered by Besin and he left Besin.

Police said while Besin continued walking along the road, Quintanes came out of his hiding place and waylaid him about 50 meters away from the road.

Quintanes shot Besin with an improvised lantaka or (rifle). Quintanes claimed that he and Besin were not in good terms but declined to elaborate further. Police recovered the lantaka from Quintanes/ Rhea Ruth Rosell, Reporter

Police said Quintanes admitted to the crime and said he was unable to control his temper. Quintanes is detained in the Alegria police precinct.
