16 hurt in vehicular accident

ABOUT 16 were injured after a truck they rode on turned on its side while trying to overtake a trailer van along Ouano Avenue at the North Reclamation Area last  Monday evening.

The truck was dragged 84 meters away after its left side landed on the road injuring all 16 passengers who are employed under GTSI Telecommunications Company, a sub-contractor of Globelines.

SPO2 Eduardo Flores of the Cebu City Traffic Management Unit said the 24-year old truck driver, Juvenile Sasaluya is from Makati, Manila and it was his first time to drive in Cebu City. Flores admitted driving too fast at 80-km per hour.

Among those injured were Roel Gonzalos, 24; Gerry Conge, 24; Beinvinido Garrando, 24; Dennis Sandagon, 39; Nonilo Yamson, 34; Jonathan Placiente, 28; Joeprey Agkang, 23; Irein Gonzalez, 28; Resito Alba, 29; Benjie Alba, 29; Dindo Betarga, 29; Dennis Misagon, 28; Bon-bon Alba, 20; Joseph Ballester, 20; Debbie Lavadra, 22 and Carvo Watimar, 31. Misagon, Sandagon, Betanga and Yamson.

Misagon, Sandagon, Betanga and Yamson are still at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) hospital as of today.

Flores said Sasaluya lost control of the steering wheel when the incident happened. Sasaluya is now detained at the Subangdaku police station and faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple physical injuries. He also drove without a license.

Bonbon Alba, took a personal belonging he left at the pick-up truck driven by Juvenile Sasaluya. The vehicle turned on its side injuring 16 passengers including him last Monday. (JUCELL MARIE CUYOS)
