Revenge eyed as motive in Lapu attack

A 20- year- old man was killed while his father was wounded when three men attacked them at home in barangay Basak, Lapu- Lapu City.

Michael Oronea, 20, was shot in the chest. He was declared at the LapuLapu City Hospital.

Oronea’s 57- year- old father Allan was wounded in the thigh and abdomen. He was recuperating in a Cebu City hospital.

Police said revenge could be the motive in the attack.

Witnesses identified the assailants as a certain Bokbok, his twin brother BikBik and Poy, said police.

Police said the three alleged assailants accused Michael as the one who shot and wounded their friend last year.

Michael denied the accusation.

About 7 p . m . last Wednesday, three men broke into the house of the Oroneas looking for Michael . The three men entered using the door at the kitchen.

Police said it was Poy who shot Michael repeatedly when they saw him inside the house.

The father tried to intervene but was also shot. The assailants fled after the attack.

The father and son were rushed to the hospital but Michael died along the way.

Senior Insp. Zenaido Pastorfide, chief of the homicide section of the Lapu- Lapu City Police Office ( LLCPO), said responding policemen went to Poy’s house.

Poy talked to the policemen behind a gate which was locked. He denied that he was involved in the attack.

Pastorfide said police tried to convince Poy to surrender but he refused.

Poy also barred the policemen from entering his house.

Yesterday morning, Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, chief of the LLCPO, and his men went to the house of Poy in Basak but was told by the man’s family that he was not around.

The family also prevented the policemen from searching the house.
