Following the success of its “Oppa Gangnam Style” performance last Sept. 29, Cebu province’s famed dancing inmates are scheduled to present again on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The monthly public “open house” shows of the inmates in the quadrangale of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center every third Saturday have been revived, said Capitol consultant on jail matters Jose Ma. Gastardo.

Also reinstated were some prisoner privileges that were cancelled after internal disciplinary problems last February.

Cebu’s dancing inmates continued to rack up ratings for its Sept. 29 “Oppa Gangnam Style” number , registering over three million hits on YouTube.

About a thousand inmates in orange prison shirts danced in the rain to the popular tune by South Korean singer Psy at the CPDRC in barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.

Last week, the Capitol’s television crew, Sugbo TV shot an official video of the inmates and uploaded it under its account name Sugbo TV in YouTube. The video registered over 1,000 hits.

Seven other YouTube accounts posted the dance performance video by YouTube users Ryan Christopher, Even Demata, kaztaraz, miczer8, comval province, D TN, and nocommenttv.

Choreographer Vince Rosales said the CPDRC inmates’ comeback performance is just the start as they plan to learn other dance interpretations in the future.
“There are other dances that the inmates have rehearsed,” he told Cebu Daily News. /Carmel Loise Matus, Correspondent
