Five houses damaged by collapsed perimeter wall

A PERIMETER wall of an old jail facility where a business process outsourcing (BPO) center is being built collapsed, damaging at least five houses in barangay Apas, Cebu City, last Sunday morning.

A cease and desist order was immediately issued by the Cebu City government this afternoon against Megawide Construction Corp., the developer of the BPO center in nearby barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

No one was reported hurt when the collapse occurred. Barangay Apas captain Ramil Ayuman said only portions of the kitchens, restrooms, and walls of nearby houses in UCMA village were damaged.

But Ayuman was worried that other houses will be affected when the remaining wall would collapse. He believed that the incident was  triggered by the ongoing development of the BPO complex.

The project is a joint venture project between Filinvest Land Inc. and the Cebu provincial government./ Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan
