Filipino runner Joebert Carolino proved that Keynan runners can be defeated as he outran Francis Kakui in the 21-kilometer race of the Citigym Halloween Run 2012 yesterday.

Carolino survived a close race with Kakui as he crossed the finish line at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino in Lahug with a time of 1 hour, 14 minutes and 01 second. Kakui was close at second with a time of 1:14.15. Filipino Riez Enriquez finished third with a time of 1:20.09.

In the women’s 21k race, Christy Sevellino-Tutor continued her winning ways as she bagged the title with a time of 1:35.50. Mary Jane Beboso trailed Tutor at second place (1:46.18) followed by Path Torremoro (1:50.50).

The spotlight also shone on reigning Milo Marathon-Cebu leg winner Mary Joy Tabal, who topped the centerpiece 32k women’s race in 2 hours and 14 minutes.

Tabal said she was aiming to finish the 32k route from Waterfront Lahug to Watefront Airport Hotel and Casino Mactan and back in two hours but she was 14 minutes over her target. Still, she was satisfied of her run.

It was actually a double celebration for her and her coach John Philip Duenas as both got their Masteral’s Degree for Public Administration yesterday. Their graduation was held after the race at the same venue.

“It was very fulfilling because I won and I graduated,” said Tabal. “But I have to improve my consistency to be able to reach my 2-hour target time for the Milo Marathon.”

Sande Sullana (2:58.34) and Merlita Arias-Dunkin (2:59.53 )crossed the finish line second and third, respectively.

Abraham Missous won the men’s 32k title, clocking two hours, one minute and 16 seconds. Noel Tillor claimed second spot (2:02.10) while Alvirg Busa settled for third with a time of 2:02.45.

The Andrin sisters were also winners in the short-distance races.

Jhean (44:14) and Lovely Fe Andrin (44:17)placed first and second, respectively in the 10k women’s race while their youngest, Cherry (20:56), took the top spot in the women’s 5k race.

Prince Joey Lee (34:16) topped men’s 10k run while John Daryl Manos (17:49) ruled the 5k men’s race.

Around 1,500 runners took part in this annual Halloween-inspired race organized by Cebu’s premier 24-hour fitness center Citigym. The technical side of the race was handeld by Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE).
