Local government officials were advised to ensure strict monitoring of landslide and flood prone areas identified in the geohazard map issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Regional Director Loreto Alburo of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau in Central Visayas (MGB–7) said they earlier identified barangays vulnerable to landslides.

These include 19 barangays in Cebu City, 11 in Balamban town, five in Toledo City, five in Asturias, 12 in Catmon town, two in Dumanjug town, one barangay in Pinamungahan, one in Ronda, six in Naga City and all mountain barangays in Talisay City.

Five Cebu City barangays are susceptible to flooding  “These areas should be strictly carried out by the local chief executives,” Alburo said.

Typhoon “Pablo” is expected to usher intense to heavy rainfall at 20-30 mm per hour within a 600 kilometer radius.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services (Pagasa) hoisted signal number 2 over southern Cebu, Bohol, southern Leyte, Negros Oriental and Siquijor. Signal number one is raised over the rest of Cebu.

Classes in all levels in Mandaue and Cebu City and kindergarten to high school in Lapu-Lapu City were suspended by their respective city governments./ Marian Z. Codilla with report from Correspondents Fe Marie Dumaboc and Tweeny Malinao
