A 46-year-old man fatally stabbed his pregnant live-in partner after they fought inside their house in barangay Tayud, Liloan town, northern Cebu.
The crime happened in front of the couple’s three-year-old daughter, police said.
Leolyn Real, 31, died on the spot with a stab wound in the abdomen. The suspect, Ronillo Anoos, surrendered to the police.
Police said the couple fought last Tuesday night. Jealousy was the cause of the argument, police said.
Anoos’ brother, Virgilio, pacified the couple and asked them to calm down since they were creating noise in the neighborhood.
Police said the suspect grabbed the woman to their house.
Police said Virgilio checked on the couple when the house became silent.
Virgilio knocked on the door but no one responded. This forced him to forcibly open the door and saw the daughter crying.
Virgilio saw the bloodied woman sprawled on the floor.
Ronillo surrendered to barangay councilor Jaime Pepito, who then brought him to the police.
The suspect also surrendered a 12-inch kitchen knife believed to have been used in the killing.
Insp. Socrates Medillo, chief of Lilo-an police, said they learned that the couple had been fighting over jealousy.
Police said the suspect had separated from his wife in Mindanao and eventually met Leolyn.
Police said the man had accused the woman of having an affair with another man.
Anoos was detained at the Liloan police pending the filing of murder charges against him, police said./ Correspondents Norman V. Mendoza and Gabriel C. Bonjoc
