No typhoon, only rains on Christmas Day: Pagasa

Posted on December 23, 2012

There won’t be any typhoon that would enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) within the holiday season since the low pressure area dissolved, the Mactan office of the state weather bureau Pagasa said.

Pagasa Mactan senior weather specialist Al Quiblat said the low pressure area was unable to maintain the temperature of 26 degrees Celsius while at the Pacific Ocean.

But the country will still experience an Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) thus possible rains will persist from Dec. 24 to 26.

Northeast monsoon will be affecting Luzon and Central Visayas with moderate waves. ITCZ will prevail in southern Mindanao while Eastern Visayas and Northern Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms./ Christine Emily Pantaleon
