14 hurt in vehicular collision in Toledo City

FOURTEEN persons were injured when a vehicle-for-hire collided with an L200 pick-up and accidentally hit a tricycle in the national road in barangay Magdugo,, Toledo City, southern Cebu at past 7 a.m today.

The V-hire driven by Pepito Pantalaño, a resident of barangay Awihaw, carried 11 passengers from Toledo City bound for Cebu City.

The tricycle driven by 43-year-old Isidro Engaling of barangay Magdugo had 13-year-old passenger Ghenierose Barangan, a resident of barangay Kabulihan and was also headed for Cebu City.

The V-Hire overtook the tricycle and accidentally collided with an approaching L200 pick-up driven by 47-year-old Raymundo Luana of barangay Villadolid, Carcar City.

The pickup swerved into the center lane after maneuvering from a curve lane.

The passengers and drivers of both Vhire and the tricycle incurred multiple serious injuries while Luana sustained minor injuries.

The passengers were identified as Vivian Yap, 50, of barangay Bato; Elvisa Alipin, 27, barangay Magdugo; Abundio Alipin Jr., 31, barangay Matab-ang; Ivy Cristine Parahinog, 19, of Magsaysay hills; Willy Salado, 21, barangay Bato; Dacuya Togo, barangay Poblacion; Akira Togo, 66, barangay Poblacion; Marcelino Adlawan, 35, barangay Daanglungsod; Jophil Berbo, 34, barangay Subayon; Ronelyn Maasin, 17, barangay Cambang-og.

They were brought to the Toledo City hospital but were later transferred to an undisclosed hospital in Cebu City while Luana was detained at the Toledo City police precinct.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple physical injuries will be filed against the drivers pending the submission of affidavits of the passengers./ Correspondent Joy Cherry S. Quito
