A 3-year old boy was killed while his twin brother was able escape the fire that destroyed five houses including their grandfather’s house late Monday evening in Hawod compound, Bulacao, Talisay City in Cebu province.

Arson investigator FO2 Cesar de la Serna identified the fatality as Mark Lister Tisoy, whose charred body was found in the rubble.

The fire lasted around 15 minutes.

His twin brother, Mark Anthony, was rescued by another family member before the entire house was engulfed by fire.

De la Serna said the fire broke out at 11:10 p.m. while the parents of the twins were busy making Sto. Niño icons. He said the twins were reportedly playing with matches inside a room here flammable materials like paint and paint thinners were stored.

A family member who noticed the fire immediately dragged Mark Anthony out of the room. It was too late when they realized that Mark Lister was still in the room.

Firefighters also had difficulty responding to the alarm as the narrow street leading to the compound prevented fire trucks from coming through.

Damage to property was pegged at P175,000. / Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan
