BE careful with my name.

Mandaue City Councilor Emmarie “Lollipop” Ouano-Dizon yesterday said she is disappointed when people, functions, communications, documents and records only address her as “Mrs. Dizon,” her husband's surname.

T he councilor said she is uncomfortable and feels awkward when she is referred only as Hon. Dizon and preferred to be called Hon. Ouano-Dizon, that is, bearing her maiden name.

She said attaching her maiden name to her husband’s surname is giving honor to her father and other Ouano descendants.

“In fact, our legislators recognized the importance that women attach to their maiden surnames that even the new Family Code allows a married woman to continue using her maiden surname even in marriage,” Ouano-Dizon said during yesterday city council's session.

Lawyer Nenita Ceniza-Layese seconded Ouano-Dizon and said she also wanted to be called Hon. Ceniza-Layese.

Majority floor leader Diosdado Suico said the SP will adopt the name. /REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
